Some kids need wrestling more than wrestling needs them

What your wrestler needs

  • A current physical and required school participation forms
  • Wrestling shoes and clean practice clothes
  • Headgear for competition
  • Short fingernails and no jewelry
  • Dowling Catholic singlets and basic warm-up gear will be provided.

Ask a coach before buying gear—we can help families understand what is necessary.

Meet-day basics

  • Wrestlers are weighed at the beginning of the season—there are no meet-specific weigh-ins and no weight cutting.
  • Coaches match wrestlers with opponents who are close in weight and at a similar skill level.
  • The number of matches depends on the opponents available at each meet. A wrestler may have one match at one meet and up to three at another.
  • At least 30 minutes of rest is required between matches.
  • Arrival and transportation details will be shared for each meet.

Safety, hygiene & rules

Skin health

Wrestlers should shower promptly, wash practice gear after every use, keep nails trimmed, and report unusual rashes or skin spots before contact. We recommend Defense Soap for post-practice showers. Find Defense Soap on Amazon

Concussion awareness

Any student with possible concussion symptoms must stop participation and follow school return-to-play procedures.

Team-issued gear

Dowling Catholic singlets and basic warm-up gear are provided for the season. Please take good care of every issued item. All team-issued gear must be returned at the end of the season.

Parent volunteers

We occasionally need parents and guardians to help with rides and bring drinks—such as water or Gatorade—to meets. Whether you can help once or throughout the season, every contribution makes a difference and is greatly appreciated.
